The Himba wear little clothing, but the women are famous for covering themselves with otjize, a mixture of butter fat and ochre. The mixture gives their skins a reddish tinge. This symbolizes earth’s rich red color and the blood that symbolizes life, and is consistent with the Himba ideal of beauty.

That looks amazing.. <3

She’s beautiful.

The Sadness of Impermanence: Beautiful

samstars:

A DJ asked me, “What if you woke up tomorrow, and you were beautiful? I mean really beautiful. You were 19, blonde, weighed 110 pounds, 5’11″ and beautiful. What would you do?”

Maybe I mentioned this before. But I can’t let it go.

Once a friend was upset about going home.
Me: “Why?”
Her:…

The Things We See: Breast Cancer Is Not A Pink Ribbon- The SCAR Project

thethingzwesee:

http://www.thescarproject.org/

The SCAR Project is a series of large-scale portraits of young breast cancer survivors shot by fashion photographer David Jay. Primarily an awareness raising campaign, The SCAR Project puts a raw, unflinching face on early onset breast cancer while paying tribute to the courage and spirit of so many brave young women.

Dedicated to the more than 10,000 women under the age of 40 who will be diagnosed this year alone, The SCAR Project is an exercise in awareness, hope, reflection and healing. The mission is three-fold: raise public consciousness of early-onset breast cancer, raise funds for breast cancer research/outreach programs and help young survivors see their scars, faces, figures and experiences through a new, honest and ultimately empowering lens.

Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in young women ages 15-40. The SCAR Project participants range from ages 18 to 35, and represent this often overlooked group of young women living with breast cancer. They journey from across America – and the world – to be photographed for The SCAR Project. Nearly 100 so far. The youngest being 18 years old.

Although Jay began shooting The SCAR Project primarily as an awareness raising campaign, he was not prepared for something much more immediate … and beautiful: “For these young women, having their portrait taken seems to represent their personal victory over this terrifying disease. It helps them reclaim their femininity, their sexuality, identity and power after having been robbed of such an important part of it. Through these simple pictures, they seem to gain some acceptance of what has happened to them and the strength to move forward with pride.” - (What you just read was copy and pasted from the mission section on the site www.thescarproject.org . For more information visit the site, and check out David Jay’s book of photography)

Alright. Let’s dissect this, monster-inside-of-me.

I like girls being proud of who they are, and I never insult them,

Good start, good start…

but some people don’t get the difference between being a little overweight and being unhealthy.

Uh oh… Well, you tell me… what IS the difference between being “a little overweight” and being “unhealthy.” What do the two even have to do with each other ? I mean, as far as I can tell, looking at a picture of a person on Tumblr tells me nothing about their health. In this photo, I’d say, at a glance, if I were to make an assumption, I look pretty healthy. Hair is shiny, clearly not suffering from any illness that affects my strength, as I am standing tall, wearing platform heels, making fists with both hands, my eyes are bright and alert.

and when I say unhealthy I mean unnaturally skinny as well.

OHHH. Okay ! You weren’t talking about the health of my body. You just meant that I’m more than “a little overweight”, which actually has nothing to do with my health. Got it.

You should be proud of yourself and your body by what you do of it.

I am ! :)

It’s like being a drug addict that is homeless and sleeps with prostitutes every night, but then says they are proud of who they are.

What ?! Now you’re just a dang liar, monster. That’s a boat load of insults right there. Do I need to refer you back to your first sentence ? Also, this doesn’t even make sense.

Be proud of your body yes, but it’s not just expressing it, it’s how you treat your body..

I just treated my body to a really amazing dinner (pasta stuffed bread) with one of my best friends. But, you’re right, I did overwork myself a bit this afternoon when I insisted on doing all of that yard work without taking a break. My back hurts, I got a blister, and I ended up suffering a major allergy attack.Next time, I’ll follow dinner up with some ice cream. And I’ll work in nap breaks when I’ve got a lot of cleaning to do. I apologize to my body for not doing these things today. Sorry, my body.

hdjafhdjlsa people.

My thoughts exactly.

I love the fucking SHIT out of kyla.
seriously.
give me your poop to love.

all the notes!

I just wanna say hi to the hottie in the picture. Gurl. Just. Gurl. You are fucking foxy.

REBLOG IF YOU STILL THINK SHE’S BEAUTIFUL.

The best part about this isn’t that a bunch of random people think she’s pretty. The best part is she obviously thinks so. She’s wearing a little makeup and her hair’s styled, and she’s wearing what looks to be a cute top. She’s not just sitting there plain as can be. You go, girl.
